The works, most of which were created in 2020 or 2021 and have never been shown publicly, mark a departure from previous modes of art-making as the seismic changes and uncertainty of the external world began to filter into the material, emotional and psychic realms. From imposed constraints came new ways of expressing and creating. Some artists turned to found objects and ephemera, becoming curious about working with new media. Many considered the stillness in intimate spaces. Some faced resurrected trauma. Others worked instinctually, reverting back to primary tools of creation.
